Illinois Central College Exhibits Rare Original Rembrandt Print
East Peoria, IL (10/27/2025) — Illinois Central College (ICC) will offer the public a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to view an original print by Dutch master Rembrandt van Rijn, on display for a limited time in the college's Art Gallery. The extraordinary exhibition is made possible through a generous loan from Dr. Blair Hunt and Micki Finney.
The Rembrandt Exhibition will run from Monday, October 27 through Friday, November 7 in the Art Gallery (Room 336B) on the East Peoria Campus. The gallery will be open 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 9:00 a.m. - noon on Friday. Admission is free and open to the public.
A Community Reception will take place on Wednesday, October 29 from 5:00 - 6:30 p.m., featuring a brief talk on Rembrandt and the art of printmaking by Dr. Megan Foster-Campbell, Professor of Art History, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
"Rembrandt transformed printmaking with his masterful use of light, texture and narrative detail," said Jennifer Costa, Professor of Art. "This is a rare chance to experience a genuine work by one of history's most celebrated artists and to see firsthand why his work continues to inspire artists today."
Rembrandt's print is an example of intaglio, a centuries-old technique in which ink is pressed into engraved lines on a metal plate and then transferred to paper. The method, which emerged in the mid-1400s, allows for remarkable tonal range and depth-hallmarks of Rembrandt's work.
