Winning essay on "How My Community College Has Changed My Life" in ICC Student Life Writing Contest

Illinois Central College agriculture students showcased their knowledge and skills in the 2021 Professional Agricultural Students (PAS) State Conference held virtually in February. Collectively, the ICC students earned 11 first-place honors, seven second-place honors, and one fourth-place. A total of 31 ICC students competed in the job interview and agriculture team competitions in which three-member teams were scored on written tests, problem-solving, and a team presentation. The seven different team competitions included the specializations of crops, soils, precision agriculture, beef, sheep, swine, and overall livestock. For the job interview competition, students were scored on a mock interview, resume, and cover letter. This statewide competition included students from seven different four-year universities and community colleges.

Illinois Central College sophomore Spencer Atkinson, Huntington, IN placed 3rd at the National Professional Agricultural Student Conference held virtually in March in the Job Interview area of Livestock Production. Participants from both four-year universities and community colleges prepared resumes and cover letters and were interviewed by industry experts.

Sophomore Illinois Central College Student Regan Fringer from Madera, California placed 2nd in Swine Judging at the 2021 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

ICC students traveled to Louisville Ky., to compete in the 54th annual Skills USA National Leadership & Skills Conference June 25-29, 2018.

Nine students from the Illinois Central College Agriculture and Industrial Technologies Department attended the National Postsecondary Agriculture Student (PAS) Contest and Conference in St. Charles, Mo., March 13-16.

Students in the graphic design advanced design problems course (GRDSN 240) recently submitted work to the Rotary Club of Peoria-North for their upcoming fundraising gala and 50th anniversary event. Students created a logo to commemorate the anniversary and promote the event. They also designed invitations, rsvp cards, save-the-date postcards, and an event brochure. Students presented their final work to the Rotary Club, which selected five students as finalists. The winning logo and printed materials will be used to promote the Club's upcoming gala event in spring of 2018. ICC Culinary Arts Institute students competed in the third round of the Heart of Illinois' Professional Chefs Association "Chopped" competition at the Peoria Riverfront on July 2.

ICC students traveled to Louisville Ky., to compete in the 52nd annual Skills USA National Leadership & Skills Conference June 20-25, 2016.

The "Cryptococcus Keepers" team from the ICC Medical Laboratory Technician Program won the championship at the Annual Medical Laboratory Science Student Bowl held April 20 in Naperville, Ill.

ICC students presented projects relating to a variety of sustainability topics at the Student Sustainability Presentation Contest held on the East Peoria Campus on April 19.

Sixty ICC students and faculty advisors participated in the Skills USA State Championships in Springfield, Ill., April 21-23. Twelve students earned Gold, Silver or Bronze medals, and 34 students placed in the top 10 in their competitions.

ICC sophomore Inga Anderson won the "Gold" Award in the student category at the Peoria Ad Club Gala held on Feb. 11.

A sophomore student in ICC's Welding Program won the American Welding Society Poster Session at a national convention held in November in Chicago.

Students in ICC's advanced graphic design class (GRDSN240) collaborated with the Peoria CEO Council to develop logos to launch their new Work Experience Program. One student's work was chosen as the winning design, with two others receiving 2nd place.

The Illinois Central College livestock judging team recently competed in the 2013 National Picture Judging Contest sponsored by the National Swine Registry. Open to youth and adult participants, the contest includes divisions for 4-H, FFA, and collegiate teams. Participants had to rank classes of swine from photos published in the Registry's December 2012 issue of Seedstock Edge. Of the 23 collegiate teams who competed, Illinois Central College teams placed first and fifth overall. Western Illinois University placed second, and teams from Black Hawk College - East Campus placed third and fourth. Locally, these students were honored:
