The U.S. Department of Education awarded an over $3 million ($3,377,000) Perkins Innovation and Modernization Grant to Illinois Central College for a consortium of local school districts and workforce organizations, including Illini Bluffs High School, Pekin High School, Peoria Public Schools, the Peoria Regional Office of Education, SkillsUSA Illinois, the West Central Illinois Building and Construction Trades Unions and Illinois Central College. The consortium will use the grant to embed work-based learning experiences and dual credit along high-demand career pathways for high school students aligned with three paid apprenticeship options post-high school graduation. This regional game-changing initiative will integrate earn-and-learn opportunities through a Regional Work Based Learning HUB, providing employers a one-stop-shop to engage students in internships, pre-apprenticeships and job shadowing while in high schools and apprenticeships post-high school graduation.
