by Amanda Lewis

East Peoria, IL (09/02/2025) — The Illinois Central College Horticulture program will welcome community members to the 44th Annual Landscape and Garden Day on Saturday, September 6, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the ICC Horticulture Land Lab on the East Peoria Campus. This free event is open to the public. This year's event theme is "STEAM in the Garden: Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math," invites visitors to explore how innovation intersects with gardening. Guests can attend educational seminars, explore interactive exhibits, and enjoy activities for all ages. Seminar topics include:

  • Weird and Wonderful
  • How Technology is Revolutionizing the Landscape Industry
  • Indoor Gardening for Food and Fun

Attendees will also get a first look at the newest All-America Selections winners, featuring the best and brightest flowers and vegetables available for next year's home gardens.

"Landscape and Garden Day at ICC is one of my favorite events of the year," said Kelly Cochran Cohlman, ICC Horticulture instructor. "Our campus arboretum and gardens are a living classroom and reflection of the hard work of our students and volunteers. The year's STEAM theme gives us a fun, hands-on way to connect the sciences and arts with gardening, and we hope visitors leave feeling inspired."

Highlights include:

  • A plant sale featuring perennials and houseplants grown by ICC Horticulture students
  • A native plant sale benefiting the Student Association for the Environment
  • Displays from local garden clubs, nurseries, and landscapers
  • Admissions staff available to answer questions about career pathways in horticulture
