ICC NEWS: Illinois Central College signs new transfer guarantee agreement with University of Illinois Springfield

East Peoria, IL (03/24/2022) — EMBARGOED: Until 2 pm on Thursday, March 24

Illinois Central College will sign a new transfer admission guarantee agreement (TAG) with the University of Illinois Springfield at the ICC East Peoria Campus Atrium on Thursday, March 24, at 2 pm. The new agreement guarantees ICC students admission to UIS and provides a clear pathway for them to complete their bachelor's degree, as well as utilizing reverse transfer credits to complete their associate degrees.

"Thanks to our historically strong partnership, we are pleased to offer a comprehensive agreement between our institutions. It demonstrates a unified commitment toward seamless transfer and completion," said ICC President Dr. Sheila Quirk-Bailey.

"This agreement further strengthens the current partnerships between our two institutions," said UIS Interim Chancellor Karen Whitney. "UIS has offered classes in the Peoria area for many years. This agreement is a result of our continued commitment to serving Peoria-area students."

The new agreement enhances advising and course selection to minimize duplication of instruction. Advisors from ICC and UIS will support students throughout their academic journey.

"UIS Chancellor Karen Whitney and ICC President Shelia Quirk Bailey have worked collaboratively to promote a strong partnership between UIS and ICC," said Vickie Cook, acting UIS associate provost for enrollment management. "Making it easier for ICC students to transfer to UIS will benefit both institutions and our students."

UIS holds on-ground classes in Peoria and Springfield, in addition to online course options. UIS offers 49 bachelor's degrees, 51 master's degrees, and a variety of professional certifications that encompass a wide range of professions. New programs to assist with nationwide teacher shortages and other opportunities will continue to be built over the next few semesters.

UIS has maintained a presence on ICC campuses since 1975 when Sangamon State University (now UIS) opened an upper-division Peoria Campus. The campus later became the UIS Peoria Center and is now known as UIS Peoria. UIS currently offers bachelor's degrees in accounting, business administration, computer science, criminology, and criminal justice and education at UIS Peoria.

ICC students interested in transferring to UIS to finish their degree should speak to their academic advisor. For more information, students are encouraged to visit uis.edu/tag.
