Seth Schumacher Competes in SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference

Seth Schumacher, of Eureka, Ill., along with other students from Illinois Central College, competed in the 52nd Annual SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference in Louisville, Ky., June 20-25.

Schumacher received a Gold Medal in Diesel Equipment Technology.

Overall, ICC brought home five medals and an additional six Top 10 finishes. The College earned 1/3 of the total medals awarded to schools in Illinois and the most medals of any single college in the State.

SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry dedicated to preparing the American workforce with skilled employees. SkillsUSA provides educational programs, events and competitions supporting career and technical education (CTE). The goal of competition is to reward students for excellence and to directly involve industry in student performance in order to keep skills relevant to the workforce needs.

To be eligible at to compete at the national level, students must successfully advance through local and state competitions. This year there were approximately 360,000 registered SkillsUSA student members nationwide, with more than 6,500 competing at the national level. Fewer than 5% earn a medal designation.
