2014 Oct 20

Scott Whittaker, of Laura, IL, was recently accepted into Illinois Central College's Diesel Powered Equipment Program for Fall 2014. Acceptance into the program is competitive, with only 20 applicants accepted from a pool of 50-75 applicants each year.

Students of the ICC DPET Program study to become service professionals in the agricultural equipment, construction equipment and heavy truck dealer service centers. Graduates may also be employed at the corporate level as product service representatives, service training instructors or equipment testing and development technicians. Upon completion of the program, some students transfer to a four-year college or university to pursue a bachelor's degree in Diesel Powered Equipment Technology.

The program combines classroom instruction with hands-on training, including laboratory work in diesel engine service and rebuild; electrical and electronic systems theory; hydraulic system operation, adjustment and diagnostics; air conditioning theory, service and troubleshooting; mechanical and electronic diesel fuel injection; powertrain operation and service; heavy truck suspension, chassis and brakes; and agricultural machinery service and calibration.

Students in their sophomore year complete two paid internships with a dealership that services diesel powered equipment.
