Ross House and Members of ICC's Agri-Business Club Bring Home Honors at State Conference

Ross House, of Lafayette, Ind., joined fellow members and club advisers Pete Fandel and Grant Grebner of the ICC Agri-Business Club to bring home team and individual honors at the Illinois Post Secondary Agricultural Student Society State Conference (PAS) held on Friday, October 23, in Bloomington, Ill.

Students participated in a variety of contests, including Livestock Specialist, Crop Specialist, Discussion Meet, Prepared Public Speaking, Impromptu Public Speaking, and Job Interviews.

House participated and/or received team or individual honors in the following categories:

Beef Specialist Team participant

Students in the crop specialist competition were required to take a written exam, identify weeds and plants, and solve industry-related problems. The livestock specialist competition consisted of a written exam and a problem solving exercise, as well as a presentation on a current issue facing the industry.Discussion meet participants were faced with several timely topics in agriculture and presented their views a round-robin forum and were scored by a panel of industry experts. Contestants in the prepared public speaking contest were required to speak for five to eight minutes on a topic related to agriculture that they had researched prior to the event. The impromptu contest had students randomly select a topic from a group of choices and had one minute to prepare their three- to five-minute speech on that topic. Job interview contestants prepared a resume, cover letter, and application and were interviewed by industry experts within their field of interest.
