Ross House and ICC's Livestock Judging Team Earn Awards at Regional Competition

2015 Mar 6

Ross House and the ICC Livestock Judging Team earned a 2nd place overall finish at the North Central Meat Animal Evaluation Contest in Madison, Wisc., on February 13 and 14. The team also placed 4th in Beef Evaluation, 4th in Breed Animal Division, 2nd in Market Animal Division, 2nd in Meats Division, 3rd in Sheep Evaluation, and 2nd in Swine Evaluation.

ICC was one of 14 teams in the two-day competition. Both four-year and community college teams from the region compete in the same divisions. The Meat Animal Evaluation contest consists of three different components that strive to integrate all aspects of the livestock industry. The competition is aimed at encouraging students to seek a more complete understanding of the food supply from conception to consumer and includes judging in meats, breeding animal, and market animal evaluation divisions.

Students must apply their knowledge of livestock and meat evaluation in order to place classes and answer questions, as well as determine true value, given current market conditions.
