Deborah Lomax Competes in "Chopped"-Style Competition

Deborah Lomax, of Peoria, Ill., competed in the third round of the Heart of Illinois Professional Chefs Association "Chopped" competition on the Peoria Riverfront on July 2.

ICC Culinary Arts Institute sophomores and Heart of Illinois Professional Chefs Association members Debbie Lomax and Lena Haig went head to head in a one-hour dash to prepare a dish using the signature ingredient of bacon. The participants also could use any other ingredients they for purchase at the Peoria Riverfront Farmer's Market.

The competition was close, but the audience ultimately crowned Haig's dish, a special "BLT," the winner. Lomax's dish was a delicious breakfast sandwich of bacon and farm-fresh eggs.

Haig will go on to compete against other finalists later this fall.
