Dayton Coyne Wins Livestock Judging Honors for ICC

2013 May 14

Dayton Coyne, of Milan, IL, was a member of the Illinois Central College Livestock Judging Team that won second place overall team honors at the North Central Meat Animal Evaluation Contest in Madison, Wisconsin.

At this contest, participants made estimates on the carcass merit of beef, swine, and sheep and also calculated the market price for those animals based on their estimations. The contestants also evaluated different groups of animals in a breeding animal division and answered questions from contest officials. A third portion of the contest was a meats category in which the students evaluated and ranked carcasses and calculated the market price.

Students from thirteen two-year colleges and four-year universities competed in this contest. The ICC team placed second overall to the University of Illinois. ICC also placed second in market animal evaluation, third in sheep, and fourth in the categories of beef, swine, and breeding animal.

The team is coached by Grant Grebner.
