Illinois Central College Athletics Inducts Third Annual Hall of Fame Class
East Peoria, IL (01/31/2025) — Illinois Central College (ICC) will honor the remarkable achievements of three teams and three individuals as part of its third annual Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremony. The event will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at the ICC CougarPlex.
The inductees include:
- 1982 Men's Basketball Team: Finished the season with an impressive 25-12 record and captured the State Championship.
- 1987 Softball Team: Achieved an outstanding season as NJCAA Division I Runners-Up.
- 1989 Softball Team: Matched the success of the 1987 team, finishing the season as NJCAA Division I Runners-Up.
- Jeni Garber: A standout basketball and softball player and three-time First Team All-Region selection.
- Charles W. Smith: A record-setting basketball player who holds an incredible 14 program records, some of which have stood for over 40 years.
- Jane (Miller) Sands: A longtime sports journalist and finalist for the prestigious 2004 Associated Press Sports Editors' Game Story Award.
The ICC Athletics Hall of Fame honors outstanding individuals and teams whose achievements have brought distinction to ICC and its athletics program. The event is an opportunity to celebrate their contributions and lasting impact on the college community.
